English as a Second Language (ESL)

We have completed our fall semester and will resume classes on Wednesday, January 12th.  We hope you have a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in January.

Participants

Registration for our ESL classes will be on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.  Classes are offered on Wednesday nights, September through May, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Hermitage Hills Baptist Church (3475 Lebanon Pike, Hermitage).  There are classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students.  Students in the Basic Beginners class use the Foundations curriculum while the Beginners and Intermediate classes use Side by Side; both curriculums are from Pearson Longman Co.  Advanced students curriculum includes: building vocabulary, conversation, idioms, proverbs, pronunciation and some writing.  You can register at any time during the year when you attend your first class.  The cost is $25 for the year.

Volunteers

In 2019, we offered three classes.  Our beginners class grew so large that we had to move it out of the classroom and into the Loft!  We had 20 students enrolled and 9 volunteers.  This is an amazing way to connect our community to the church and to Christ.  You can join us by serving in many ways through facilitating a class, being a class helper, hosting the welcome table, hosting the snack area, and helping with administrative tasks.

Classes are offered on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.  Our classes begin Wednesday, September 1, and will run through the end of May.  Currently, we have 15 students who represent eight countries and six languages.
