Christian and Rachel have moved back to the states. Please read their letter below.

August 2017

Family and friends,

We would like to announce that we are moving back to the United States at the end of August, first part of September.  Due to unforeseen circumstances we have decided to make this move.  We are no longer needed here in Sherbrooke because the holes that we came up here to fill, have been filled by the local church members.  This is a huge blessing for Eglise du Mont Bellevue because when I first made contact, they were in desperate need of people to help fill positions.  God has answered prayers!  We will still be working with Eglise du Mont Bellevue from the States by helping them raise money for construction.  The church is growing rapidly and they need more space, so they are expanding their building.  We feel that we would be of more use helping them raise money, than raising money for ourselves.  While we are sad to leave, we are also excited for the next step in our journey.  We move to Paducah, Kentucky where Christian’s family lives and begin working.  Please pray for a speedy job search.

In order to move us back, we could need up to $3500 in American money.  We have some of it in our account at Hermitage Hills Baptist Church, however we will need to finish raising the rest so we can come home.  We have tried to find someone to sublet our apartment, but not many people are looking this time of year.  If we cannot find someone to sublet, then we will have to pay 3 months of rent before we leave.  This equals to $1920 Canadian or $1531 US.  We will need the remainder of the $3500 to help pay for gas, hotel and other moving expenses.  If we find someone to sublet, we will not have to pay the extra fee; however, we will still be responsible for the apartment and making sure the rent is paid each month.  We would prefer to pay the 3 months and break our lease.  Please pray for God’s will to be done in this situation.
If you could donate to help bring us home, that would be greatly appreciated.  One way is to send your donation to Hermitage Hills Baptist Church designating “Missionary Fund- Christian and Rachel Biggers”.  You may also donate to gofundme.com/ourcanadastory.  Also, you can purchase Mary Kay from Rachel at marykay.com/rlbiggers.  A large percentage goes to our account from Mary Kay purchases.  The last option is to purchase coasters that Rachel makes.  Any one of these ways would help!

In concluding our time here, we would like to thank each one of you for your support that has meant the world to us. We did not expect to come home so soon, but God always has a plan.  We do not regret our time here because it helped us grow as a couple and we learned many things that will help in the future as well as build a connection with the community here.  We would love to meet with you when we come back to the States to talk about our experience.  Again, thank you for your support.

Bound by Christ,
Christian and Rachel Biggers

June 2017

Things have been going well here in Sherbrooke!  Canada is absolutely beautiful this time of year!  Our French has improved through our class and immersion.  We are able to understand a lot more than even just a few months ago.  Last month we received our health insurance cards, Canadian licenses and a visit from a student mission group from UT Martin.  This July 1, Canada celebrates her 150th birthday.  There have been many celebrations going on across the country.  I happened to be in downtown Montreal amidst major traffic, tourists and natives during a particular event that held building-sized marionettes.  While this may seem strange, Canada, especially Quebec, loves to celebrate culture.  Concerts and events have taken place since the beginning of spring to celebrate Canada’s birthday.
Rachel has been very busy with the praise team, babysitting for local parents in the church and fundraising with Mary Kay.  Christian made a video last month for our church fundraiser and has continued to grab great footage and photos of the community.  Our soccer ministry has regulars and new attendees every time!  Through the making of Christian’s videos and different activities, we have learned a lot about Quebec and the community.  Many church buildings are now used as restaurants, night clubs and sometimes mosques.  The Quebecois people have been hurt by the Catholic church and do not intend to further their religion.  While many people have been turned off by religions, they are very friendly and enjoy spending time at the church’s events.  Last Friday, June 9, our church had an end of the school year barbecue where we gave away gifts and served free food.  While the rain interfered with some games we had planned, the Lord still prevailed through different activities like dancing, camp sign ups and a Christian magician.
Many children from our church will attend a yearly summer camp with a local ministry called Word of Life.  This camp has proven successful; please pray with us that it is successful again this year.  Our church is expanding and needs to raise the remaining funds for construction stage 2.  The church is expanding since we have had great growth.  Please continue to pray for us as we also continue to fundraise.  We need a few thousand dollars to complete Rachel’s budget year salary.  Our new budget year will begin this November and in order to continue our work up here, we will need your support.

If you would like to donate please send your donation or give online to Hermitage Hills Baptist Church designating “Missionary Fund- Christian and Rachel Biggers”.  Some months we need more support than other months.  If you would like to help in this way then you can purchase Mary Kay from Rachel’s site at marykay.com/rlbiggers or donate to gofundme.com/ourcanadastory.  If you would like to receive more information on fundraising for us or the church, then please let us know.  We have budgets readily available.

Thank you for your support and love,
Christian and Rachel Biggers

February 2017 - Bonjour,

Thank you everyone for your constant support. We can’t say how much we appreciate hearing from you all back home, and you telling us that we are in your prayers. It definitely helps during those moments when all you hear is French and you are just trying to keep up in the conversation. Speaking of French, we were finally able to register for some language courses that are provided by the government starting in April. Both of us plan to take the course, but let’s face it that Rachel will be helping Christian more than learning. She looks forward to taking the class, and hopefully, her online courses back in the states as well as the class here will not be too overwhelming for her. So, please keep that in your prayers.
As for our work here at the church, we have been fairly active. We had our once a month lunch for the students again; unfortunately, the school had an event during the same time for their spring break, so the turn out for this month was not great. But, we were happy to serve the students that showed up, and they seemed to enjoy themselves. We also gave a presentation of our testimonies, and Rachel followed that presentation with another one on the End It Movement which started a great conversation about awareness of human trafficking. The church seemed to really be intrigued by her presentation, and Rachel even did it in French! So, thank you again for your support because she was very nervous, but your prayers supported her to give her the courage she needed.
We know it seems like we are saying thank you for your prayers a lot, but that is because we can’t begin to figure out how to tell you how much you are appreciated. We have quickly found out the emotional and physical stresses it takes on a human being moving to another country, and sometimes it feels overwhelming. That is where your prayers come in need, so once again thank you.
Along with your prayers, your donations are still in need especially with all the unexpected expenses we have encountered the last couple months. If you have forgotten, you may send a donation to Hermitage Hills Baptist Church by notating the money is intended for Christian and Rachel and writing our names in the memo line of a check or by sending a note with the check.  If you wish to receive contribution credit for tax purposes, we encourage you to send your donations to:
                                       Missions Office
                                       Hermitage Hills Baptist Church
                                       3475 Lebanon Pike
                                       Hermitage, TN  37076

Or, if you prefer to give online, you can give through the church’s website hermitagehills.com.  Give > Give Online (select “Missionary Fund” from the dropdown and indicate Christian and Rachel in the memo line).  No matter the amount, all donations are welcomed equally and will help us tremendously. Thank you again, and we will be sure to update you next month!

January 2017 Hello everyone,

We are sorry for sending a late newsletter for January, but we finally have some big news. We have a car!!! After a long wait hearing back from the bank on whether or not we could get financial assistance, they responded with a disappointing rejection because they felt that we were too new to the country. But Pierre, our salesman that has been helping us all these months, came through and found an old reliable Honda Accord that will get us from “A” to “B” at a reasonable price to buy in full. It was a long journey, but finally, WE HAVE A CAR!!! So, thank you for your prayers and support in this matter.

In other news, we have been getting a lot busier with the church. Rachel every Thursday night goes to practice with some of the worship team to play on alternating Sunday mornings, and Christian has worked on a couple videos and shot some photos for a few events at the church. One of the events was just few weeks ago on a Friday. The church started this month to invite the local high school students to lunch once a month to the church during their lunch hour. Yes, the schools here let their students out for an hour or more for their lunch. This was the first time the church hosted the students for lunch, and we had a great turn out! A lot of good fellowshipping amongst the leaders and the students, and hopefully they come back every month. The church has great enthusiasm for this program to help reach out to the local students. We will be looking forward to updating everyone on our progress with this program in following newsletters, so please keep our local students in your prayers.

Don’t forget. If you would like to help us cover our expenses, you may send a donation to Hermitage Hills Baptist Church by notating the money is intended for Christian and Rachel and writing our names in the memo line of a check or by sending a note with the check.  If you wish to receive contribution credit for tax purposes, we encourage you to send your donations to:

                                       Missions Office

                                       Hermitage Hills Baptist Church

                                       3475 Lebanon Pike

                                       Hermitage, TN  37076

Or, if you prefer to give online, you can give through the church’s website www.hermitagehills.com.  Give > Give Online (select “Missionary Fund” from the dropdown and indicate Christian and Rachel in the memo line).

I know us asking for your financial support seems repetitive, but we could use your help now more than ever with having to pay for a car in full be that it was the only way for us to purchase one. We are very grateful for all the prayers and support you have already sent, and we looking forward to updating you on our journey ahead in Quebec. God bless!

December 2016 Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much for your support so far!  Your prayers, kind words, and financial grace have brought us many blessings and joy; you all are amazing!  Our first few weeks have felt like a dream but also have been difficult because of several road blocks dealing with our visas, other paperwork, and getting a loan for a car, but God has been faithful.  Hopefully, we can shine a little more light in this letter to show you how your support has helped us fiscally and emotionally.

Our church home in Sherbrooke is Mont Bellevue Eglise (Church of Mont Bellevue).  This is a new church plant that had been meeting in homes up until a few months ago when they were finally able to open doors in their own building.  Since they are still a new church, they are unable to afford to pay all of their employees.  I will be working as a Children and Student Minister as well as helping lead worship.  Christian will be working as a Media and Videography Director.  We will not be paid from the church, which is why donations are greatly needed and appreciated.

While the first weeks have seemed like a struggle with paperwork, we have begun to settle in nicely. Our new church family has embraced us well and is helping us learn the area, culture, and French!  Rachel will be working with the worship team playing the piano. The musicians are talented and share God’s love well through music.  Many people speak English with us, but we are mainly learning by immersion.  We are surrounded by the French language and pick up common phrases often, but to help us become more fluent, Christian will begin French language classes. Rachel also has her first classes starting in February for her online seminary degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Please pray that during this month we can finalize our car and other items before our classes begin.

If you would like to help us cover our expenses, you may send a donation to Hermitage Hills Baptist Church by notating the money is intended for Christian and Rachel and writing our names in the memo line of a check or by sending a note with the check.  If you wish to receive contribution credit for tax purposes, we encourage you to send your donations to:

                                       Missions Office

                                       Hermitage Hills Baptist Church

                                       3475 Lebanon Pike

                                       Hermitage, TN  37076

If you prefer to give online, you can give through the church’s website www.hermitagehills.com.  Give > Give Online (select “Missionary Fund” from the dropdown and indicate Christian and Rachel in the memo line).

Whether you can send a donation or not, we covet your prayers.  Quebec holds an infamous record for the highest rate of suicide and depression in North America.  This is not something Canada is proud of, so please pray that Jesus’ light will break through the dark that has a hold on Quebec.  We will be mentoring and discipling many students and young adults, so please pray that God will soften their hearts to hear His message.  We love being on this journey as a couple, but we feel as though you all are joining us in this fantastic journey with the Lord. Thank you again for your love and support.

Bound in Christ,

Christian and Rachel Biggers
