Find your Blessings in Blessing Others

by Andy Miller

Larry Boy Rock on Larry Boy.  That was all that I heard my oldest sing growing up.  He thought the vegetable with suction cups for ears was the best thing on the planet.  We watched a show called Larry Boy and the Bad Apple over and over.  He would walk around saying phrases from the movie.

One year for Christmas my wife, Heather, and I decided to purchase the Larry Boy car for him.  This car was amazing.  You are able to push a button and lights begin to start flashing up in the front of the car to show that Larry Boy is coming to save the day.  Larry Boy’s voice would yell out as the button was pushed “I am Larry Boy”.  We searched and searched and searched for a Larry Boy car.  When we found it, we were so excited to wrap it up and give it to him.

On that Christmas morning we were at my brother’s house.  As is often the case, the excitement was as great in the givers as we anticipate in the receiver.  The time came for our then five-year-old to rip open the package and see the Larry Boy Car.  I wish I could express for you in words how excited Harrison was to receive this gift.  He yelled with excitement and started jumping up and down.  The Larry Boy action vehicle went with Harrison everywhere he went.  There were many nights Harrison even slept with that Larry Boy car.

There is nothing greater than giving someone something that they need. One of the greatest gifts that we can give someone is to be a light in the midst of darkness for them. One of my favorite passages is Ephesians 2:8-10.  It talks about how God saved us and has good works that He specifically has planned for us to do.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves,
it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Where do we begin?  This year ask the Holy Spirit to speak into your life and instruct you on where to start.  The next part is the harder part—do what He tells you to do.  There will be nothing greater you can do this year than to be Light in the Midst of Darkness for someone.  Listen to the Holy Spirit and follow His lead.  What happens will surprise you.  You will be blessed more than the person you are being a light to.
